  • More car-seat flexibility than the Palisade or Telluride, especially for families needing 3–4 car seats

Car Mom Review

The Exterior

The Pathfinder was completely redesigned for 2022, and when I say completely, I mean demo-day, gut renovation vibes. New exterior, new interior, new transmission—this is not a light refresh.

The best word to describe the exterior is fresh. The front grille is simple but bold, with a white Nissan logo that really pops. The subtle hood lines, wraparound chrome details, and that gorgeous gray paint paired with black accents all work together beautifully.

The headlights are fun and modern—very much giving early Hyundai Palisade vibes—and I’m calling it now: bold, unique headlights are the trend. The side profile is where this car really shines, especially with the black roof, black mirror caps, black roof rails, and just enough chrome to elongate the body.

The rear is more understated. I wouldn’t have minded a little extra sass back there, but the massive PATHFINDER lettering definitely makes a statement.

First Row

Let’s talk interior—because wow. The saddle brown leather in the Platinum trim is stunning. Truly one of the prettiest interiors I’ve seen at this price point. The contrast stitching, materials, and textures feel high-end… maybe a little too high-end in the sense that there’s a lot going on. Chrome here, textured rubber there, high-gloss black everywhere—it’s gorgeous, but visually busy.

Front Seat Highlights

  • Heated and ventilated seats ✔️
  • Flat-bottom steering wheel (love the sporty feel)
  • Digital gauge cluster + heads-up display
  • Wireless charger, USB + USB-C, 12V outlet
  • Genius purse / iPad / catch-all compartment under the center console

That said, the high-gloss black surfaces are fingerprint city, which is always something I consider as a mom who lives in her car.

The infotainment system is updated and easy to use, but Nissan’s branding feels… dated. Same fonts, same colors we’ve seen for years. I also wish the screen were slightly angled toward the driver.

That said, it has all the essentials:

  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear automatic braking
  • Solid driver-assist tech across trims

Second Row

The second row is fantastic. I’m talking:

  • Five cup holders within arm’s reach (yes, FIVE)
  • Sliding and reclining seats
  • Heated second-row seats (Platinum trim)
  • Climate controls, USB, USB-C, and an outlet (pumping moms—this one’s for you)
  • Ceiling air vents (huge win)

Comfort, amenities, and storage back here are top-tier.

The 2022 Pathfinder offers exceptional car seat flexibility, especially thanks to the car-seat-friendly tilt feature. When a car seat is installed using lower anchors, the entire seat can tilt forward without uninstalling the car seat—allowing easy third-row access. This works with both rear- and forward-facing seats (within weight limits).

What I Love:

  • Lower anchors in both second-row captain’s chairs
  • Tether anchors in all five rear seating positions
  • Third-row access buttons placed low—where kids can actually reach them
  • Built-in second-row sunshades
  • Weight sensors that prevent the tilt feature from activating with a child in the seat
  • Removable head restraints

If you’re juggling multiple car seats, this flexibility matters.

Third Row

While most midsize SUVs struggle with the third row, the Pathfinder actually does pretty well.

  • Comfortable for adults when the second row is adjusted
  • Reclining seats
  • USB port and cupholders on both sides

Would I seat three kids back there daily? Probably not.
But for carpools, cousins, or occasional third-row use — it works.

Trunk

The third row is… better than expected. With the second row adjusted properly, I could comfortably sit back there for a road trip. That said, three people across would be tight, this is realistically a two-person third row.

Trunk Space:

  • Third row up: Tight. Not stroller-friendly.
  • Third row down: Solid and usable.

I appreciated the deep under-floor storage with durable plastic—perfect for muddy cleats, groceries, or kid chaos. For a family of four who only uses the third row occasionally, this setup works.

Safety

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. It also comes loaded with safety features like

  • Intelligent Forward Collision Warning
  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Blind Spot Warning
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • RearView Monitor
  • Rear Automatic Braking
  • High Beam Assist
  • Intelligent Driver Alertness
